their jobs. He believes in open access and oversight by voters on all matters
that come before the Board of Education. He said, "I will always be open to
feedback from teachers and voters, as well as vote against sessions of the Board
of Education that are closed to the public such as executive sessions. My cell

This campaign platform is centered around thinking outside of the box, including that R. Wagner (Dick) Jones believes that children will learn best when they are motivated. That our future critically depends on how well we prepare primary education students for college entry and/or to successfully enter the workforce. That in order to accomplish that level of preparation we need to place emphasis on the motivational abilities of our teachers, which in turn requires that teachers are not overwhealmed by large class sizes. He said, "I will advocate shifting more of the over half billion dollar annual budget of Granite School District to teacher pay incentives and bonuses based on student motivational indicators".
Students will learn best when they are motivated. To support higher student motivation, R. Wagner (Dick) Jones believes that we need to have less students per teacher in each classroom (lower Teacher/Student ratios); we need to continue to support effective extra curricular activities; and we need a policy of tearing down less perfectly good schools only to build new ones in their place. Granite District needs to put more of it's budget funds into the minds of its student population, and less into brick and mortar. He said, "To me, these shifts are essential in order to pay good teachers what they deserve and in order to retain the best teachers. We must pay our best teachers enough that they are not attracted to leave for higher paying jobs in competing industries. Government has already mortgaged our children's future. I want to help Granite School District lead the way in producing a new generation that is capable of paying that mortgage off as a result of the quality educations that they receive; the resulting high productivity that they produce in Utah's economy; and the positive impact that they will therefore be sure to have on their own posterity in generations to come. This is an important way that we can all help give back to our children".
This campaign is about thinking outside of the box in order to administer the Granite School Board budget in way that better motivates children to want to learn and be involved in school activities. It replaces the system where teachers and students were held accountable to learn under the Federal "No Child Left Behind Program". R. Wagner Jones says, "My family has a rich history of motivation by thinking outside of the box: My son, Rick, serves as an example of the type of success story that this campaign hopes that Granite School District can offer to all of it's students through teachers that help motivate them to want to learn. My brother, Robert, devoted a 30 year career as a Granite School District Teacher: Robert was named as Teacher of the year two or three times during that time. He taught Advanced Placement as part of his efforts. At family dinner one time, I told my brother how I had been approached more than once by his successful Advanced Placement students, who asked if I was him, then expressed to me how he had saved their lives. My brother explained that he chose his Advance Placement High School students from kids that were on the edge of dropping out. He went on to say that all that they needed was motivation to be the best that they can be. Robert stayed in his Teaching career because it was more important to him to teach, than it was to make more money in a different career. We need to attract teachers that share that belief and support them with good pay, as well as incentives and awards for their successes".
